Yesterday, April 4, I took Brecklin to the Dr. for the first time. Her respiratory rate was 119, extremely high and dangerous, and she was retracting quite a bit. The Doctor said it wasn't really even safe to feed her with her working that hard to breathe. I felt so bad for Brecky. She called the NICU, and they put a new plan into action....increasing the doses of her Diaretics to keep the fluid off her lungs. With the extra dose and higher volume, she seemed to improve through the evening. Our good friend in the Ward, whom works as a NICU nurse there, came by after work to check her. She said she looked really good. Going into the early morning feedings, Brecky looked pretty bad again. Working really hard and retracting again. She had a follow-up appointment today, and the Doctor called the NICU again...respiratory rate 80 now. Still too high. Brecklin was re-admitted this afternoon. I started to cry with the Doctor....feeling like it was my fault this happened to Brecklin....didn't know what to do for her. It was just REALLY overwhelming. When she was re-admitted, they had to put her back on her Vapo-therm at 3 liters and then suctioned her nose. A ton of boogers and snot came out, so they sent that for a viral screening. They are thinking she may be sick too. Throughout the day, I've mellowed out and realized it's what's best for Brecky Bug. She needs that help right now, and now WE can KNOW she's alright. We miss you already sweet girl! :)
